Last year I was encouraged to do monthly video blogs. At the time , it seemed like a great idea, but once I tried to put the video together, I realized that this would be a challenge. It is hard not to notice my expressions, or the sound of my voice, or how much I move when I talk. I went through many tries until I realized there was not going to be a perfect recording. I’m learning, it can only get better, right?
I hope we can connect better as you get to see who it is that you talk to or hear from through a computer screen.
My goal is to answer your questions through these video blogs, so leave those questions in the comments here, and I will use those in the future videos. I want to talk about topics you want to hear about, and I promise that just as I do with my writing, in these videos you will get to hear from my heart.

Loved it! A great vlog introduction – thorough, clear, and friendly.
And to answer your question, it does sound like you have just the slightest accent! I’m super sensitive to accents, so I definitely heard just a touch of one while you were talking. I’m from Michigan and grew up in the Midwest, so I heard that as the primary vowel tones you use, but something in your cadence and a few consonants reminds me that you have a Latin background.
Oh, girl, so adorable. 🙂 This kind of helps it not seem like you’re so far away, so yay for that! I’ve debated doing vlog entries several times and could never get something I was proud of. So good job for doing it, and I know you’ll share lots that is helpful, and it’s always encouraging because it comes from your heart. And you’re naturally built to be an encouragement to those around you. Two thumbs up on the first vlog! (And I recognize that wall behind you!! 🙂
Oh I have…at least 10 versions of this! I tried editing, but it was really hard to do! I figured I could do longer videos and cut the extra, but even those were longer than 3 minutes! I want to stick to two minutes, but that is a challenge! So I went with an unedited version, and the shortest one 😉
Great first video! I noticed that you tried really hard to not move too much. A little movement is actually good, it helps keep the realness in the video. My only comment is, don’t be afraid to give yourself breathing times. It felt a little like what you were saying was a little rushed, but I understand how that is (just watch some of my early Youtube videos). Besides that this is a great video!! Excited to see where this goes and if I have any questions I will be sure to send them your way! Thanks for sharing your life and heart with us! 🙂
Annetta, I don’t know how else to do this and keep it to three minutes max. I do know it is rushed, actually that is one of the things that bothered me about it, but taking a breather made my shortest version 4 minutes. I know there is a way to do this, and I bet it is a matter of practice and getting comfortable. I need to say less, and I do think just focusing on one thing will help. So here is to hoping the vlogs get better and better the more I do them!
Ellen, this video was a collection of thoughts rather than a focused video on one topic, therefore it would be hard for you to keep from rushing as you move from point to point. I think that as you start doing more focused videos, the time limit problem will become easier and you will be more relaxed as you concentrate on what you are saying and not how you say it.
Very good first video! I am not sure I would be brave enough to do one myself so kudos to you.
Finally, I love your gentle accent. It is not distracting and makes your speeches more interesting…:-)
NICE HEARING YOUR VOICE. YOU DO HAVE AN ACCENT
Loved it! You did AWESOME! I did vlogs on a mommy site and my first video was super difficult. You look so smooth and natural. I agreed with Tom about your accent! It is so faint that I can see how some could not even notice. Can’t wait for the next one!
Oh thank you! I hope I get more and more comfortable with this, and since I will be doing one topic at a time, it really should feel less rushed 🙂
