Summer break is here, and for some kids with disabilities, the change in routine can be a challenge (which means it can be a challenge for the parents, too).

In this last episode of Unexceptional Moms, Erin and I talk about surviving the summer with kids with disabilities. We don’t offer any gound breaking insights, but we share what has worked for us and other parents in the past.

In this episode we cover:

  • Things you can do during the summer break to pass the time.
  • Why establishing a routine is helpful.
  • The importance of self-care during the summer months.

Don’t forget the freebie: The summer camp list for kids with disabilities (and their families, too).

About Unexceptional Moms:

This is the last episode of the first season of Unexceptional Moms. Second season starts in September. Do you have any topics you want us to cover? let us know and we will find experts on the topic to interview or we will cover the topic if we feel we have something meaningful to contribute.

What is coming up next season:

  • Guardianship for kids with disabilities turning 18
  • Helping kids with disabilities accept their diagnosis
  • Helping parents accept their child’s diagnosis
  • Physical therapy, is it always necessary?

If you have suggestions and ideas, send them our way.

The freebie this week — to help you survive the summer — is a list of summer camps for kids with disabilities. it is not a comprehensive list, as we are sure there are many more camps. But, we feel this is a good starting point that will hopefully give you some options for your family or your child.

And don’t forget to check with your local “Parks and rec” as they often have programs specifically designed for children with disabilities, along with providing supports.

Send me the summer camp list for kids with disabilities (and their families, too).
